Registration|| Who can attend the summer school?
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to apply. Exceptions can be made based on availability. || Can international students apply? Yes. In fact nearly half of our students are from outside of the United States. || What is the minimum English language requirement for international students? High school level English is sufficient and no English proficiency exam scores are required. We believe in passion and active engagement of each participant to BE THE CHANGE. || How many students are admitted each summer? Approximately 10-12 participants are selected. || How are students selected for admission? We are looking for bright and active students who have the ability and passion to make a difference in the society. We also are looking for well-rounded students who will contribute to the life of the academy. |
Academics|| When does the summer program begin and end?
Our program is normally held in early to mid August. Please come back later for more details. || What is Active Learning? "Active learning" allows students to learn through engagement with the course material, participation in class, the learning environment and collaborate with each other. All programs at The Change Academy are designed based on three active learning models; Project-Based Learning, Case-Method Learning and Service Learning. |
Other|| Where do I stay?
The Change Academy is a summer boarding program. All the students stay together at the selected international camp site, organic farm cottage, old plantation hale and University of Hawaiʽi dormitory. Accommodations, meals and transportation will be provided by the Lōkahi Foundation. || Do you offer scholarships/financial aid? Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need of students registered for The Change Academy. |
